This PhD project merges scientific and artistic methodologies to critically examine humanity’s place in history while contemplating potential futures. Through his work, Horacy Muszyński transports audiences to a fictional future beyond the Anthropocene, where they encounter artifacts from a fallen post-industrial civilization.
At its core, the research explores:
The construction of history – How sources, conjectures, historical methods, and cultural biases shape our interpretation of the past.
Speculative futures – Possible trajectories for humanity amid global shifts, particularly the effects of technology and climate change.
Art as an immersive world-building tool – How artistic practice can construct a compelling alternative reality.
Engagement strategies – Developing techniques to immerse audiences in speculative narratives, bridging history, archaeology, and fiction.
What makes this project innovative is its multidisciplinary approach, blending historical simulation, ecological and evolutionary perspectives, and experimental narrative techniques. It aims to redefine disciplinary boundaries, offer fresh insights into cultural evolution, and promote ecological awareness.

By combining speculative archaeology, storytelling, and new media, Muszyński’s work challenges conventional understandings of history and envisions alternative futures for human civilization.
